Collection of Colin &
Elizabeth Laverty, July 2006 2006 |
Medium: |
1. Double-page spread in periodical, offset lithograph
2. Lightfast inkjet on canvas 50 x 80 cm |
|
The work shown here was realised in the Spring issue of the periodical
Photofile. It reflects upon Print's relation to Painting which,
for much of its history, has been one of mutual economic advantage
dependent on the value of the latter and on the economy and craft
of its reproduction.
The work has two forms, both of which reproduce in print a large
private art collection comprising nearly 2000 paintings and objects.
The collection is represented as a flattened quantified mass
- here on an 'artists page' spread in an Australian art magazine.
(printed as offset litho) and in its second form (not shown)
as a singular print on canvas, stretched like a painting which
has been purchased for the collection.
The only piece of my work held by the collector
to this date, is a print that represents every other object in
their collection except for itself. |
