All images come from a series collected
and collated during the first of the five years that I was employed
at an inner-city photocopy shop in Melbourne. The copies were retrieved
from large bins of waste copies which are taken each fortnight
to a mill and pulped to become, amongst other things, recycled
paper for use in photocopiers. For every imperfect A4 page in these
folios there is a parallel that a customer has preferred to pay
for and take. As well as demonstrating the numerous errors that
can be made while operating the machine, the series gives some
idea of the promiscuity of the business of copying and might also
suggest an expanded notion of ‘public art’.
The complete set consists of thirty-six bound folios each of thirty-six
A4 original electrostatic prints.
Images were originally intended to be viewed in pairs but
may also be viewed as a grid. |
