SAFES
The safes were constructed as a series of (sculptural) forgeries - statements whose veracity can not be tested or determined against anything but their convincing similarity to authoritative signs of wealth and by their speculative value as contemporary works of art. The aim is to simulate the form of a thing of value and to undermined it in the final instance by means of a reductive abstraction. Erasing the dial's numbers, for instance, or omitting the hinges on the safe's door and turning it into a somewhat crippled object - a bit like a child's 'piggy-bank' perhaps: theoretically openable only by cracking it and thereby disconfirming its guarantee of security.
